Description

Light:

A good place for them is a bright spot in the house, with indirect diffused natural light. Direct exposure to sunlight can cause severe burns to the leaves. Lack of light makes the leaves dark green, while too much light causes them to turn light green or turn yellow. Can be mounted on a window facing east or west.

Cultivation substrate:

The suitable substrate for these orchids is the pine bark or mixtures with it, but to provide proper ventilation and proper drainage to prevent root rot. Its cultivation in sphagnum is often mentioned, but in this case the frequency of watering is greatly reduced.

Irrigation:

The frequency of watering depends on both the substrate on which it is planted and the conditions prevailing in the environment in which it is grown. In addition, a very good indicator of whether your plant needs watering is the plant itself. When the roots are green, silver-gray, place them in a bowl of water at about half the level of the pot. After immersion, allow to drain well before placing back in the pot. Ideally, use deionized water at room temperature.

Lubrication:

A balanced fertilizer eg 20-20-20, dissolved at ½ of the recommended dosage or a fertilizer suitable for orchids can be used. During the winter season (October-February), fertilizer is applied once a month, while during the growing season (March-September) the fertilization requirements increase, so we add fertilizer every 15 days. Often, we rinse the substrate so that salts do not accumulate and damage the roots.

Transplantation:

The ideal time to transplant orchids of this genus, is after their flowering is complete and never in a flowering plant. There is no reason to transplant frequently, unless the culture medium has broken down or the root system has grown large enough to suffocate in the pot. Otherwise, if there is a transplant reason, such as an insect infestation or a damaged / rotten root system. Suitable pots for them are the transparent plastic pots with holes for better ventilation. Be careful not to confuse the aerial roots of the plant, which are normal to protrude from the pot. In their natural environment, they serve to be anchored on trees or rocks.

Flowering:

They bloom in late winter to early spring. After each flowering, cut the flowers that have bloomed after drying.

Humidity:

As they are tropical plants, they are plants that love the increased temperature in the area. The ideal humidity is 50-60% and requires additional adequate air movement in the space. If they are grown indoors where the humidity is very low, then placing it in a tray with water and stones, will favor the increase of humidity in their environment. Be careful not to let the roots come in contact with the water of the tray as there is a risk of rotting.
